Fuse Box Replacements and Panel Upgrades

  • by

Years ago when houses were being built fuse boxes were installed to distribute power coming into the entire house. Nowadays breaker panels are being installed instead of fuse boxes.

A fuse consists basically of a piece of metal that is supposed to melt when the current exceeds the amperage rating. In order to restore power the fuse must be replaced. With breakers, if the current exceeds the amperage the breaker trips. To restore power the breaker simply has to be reset. The breaker also reads heat which adds an additional bonus of safety. With our modern technology and the increased use of electricity a lot of fuse boxes are inadequate for the electrical needs of a house. Breaker panels are more adequate and safer and easier to manage. It would be in your best interest to have your fuse box replaced with a breaker panel.

Panel Upgrade

If you already have a breaker panel there are times when you may need an upgrade. When houses were first installing breaker panels they installed them according to the electrical needs of that time. As with the fuse boxes many panels do not have enough breaker space to meet the current electrical needs of a typical house. If your home requires more amperage it may be time for a panel upgrade.

Having your fuse box replaced or getting a panel upgrade will increase electrical efficiency and safety. It will also increase the value of your home. It is definitely something that you need to consider.
